Lithium Battery Demand to Reach 250–500 GWh in India by FY33
In Short
India's lithium battery demand is projected to reach 250–500 GWh by FY33, according to industry estimates — a scale that would support EV penetration of around 50% of new vehicle sales by 2032–33.
The supply chain race
That demand is triggering investment across the battery value chain: cell manufacturing plants, recycling capacity and raw material sourcing. Domestic cell production would cut costs further and shield the market from import volatility.
For scooter buyers the trajectory is favourable: batteries — the single largest cost component of an EV — keep getting cheaper and better with every passing year.
